Once a “KOTO” was made by only one technician through all processes ― from the beginning to
the completion. But recently owing to the innovation of the electric tools, the process was skipped or
divided. Now I will tell you what process is generally used today. (T) Choosing the lumbers ― Check the lumbers in various aspects ※A little bent one is suitable for a “KOTO” so that complex grain can be seen on the surface of a “KOTO” (U) Cutting the chosen lumbers (V) Drying the cut lumbers outside for at least a few years. (W) Sculpturing a “KOTO” out of the dried lumber. (X) Searing a sculptured “KOTO” (Y) Polishing a seared “KOTO” (Z) Decorating a “KOTO” ― The techicians spend more time on this process in the whole courese of making a “KOTO.” |
